Transgender Support
As
expressed by the
Harry Benjamin International Gender Dysphoria
Association, gender identity disorder, or "gender
dysphoria" is the incongruence between the physical
phenotype and the gender identity, which is the
individual's personal identification as either male or
female regardless of what the physical appearance
conveys. Persons who "transcend" stereotypical gender
roles or societal expectations are referred to as
"transgender"; this includes but is not limited to
heterosexual transvestites, gay drag, butch lesbianism,
and transsexuality.
Transsexuality is referred to as the more "extreme" form
of gender dysphoria, where individuals seek medical
intervention to alter their physical form in order for
it to be congruent with their "brain gender", or their
personal gender identity. Such persons are referred to
as "transmen", which are female-to-male transitioning
individuals, and "transwomen" which are male-to-female
transitioning individuals.
If you
identify as a transgender individual or if you have any
personal or general questions about your gender
identity, you can talk directly to a Lebanese
Female-to-Male transperson activist by sending an email
to
trans@meemgroup.org. All emails and inquiries will
be handled with complete confidentiality.
